Our Story

Kanavagam was founded by Balaji and Kavitha with a deep desire to provide love and support to parentless children, reflecting the care they give to their own two daughters.

After facing challenges with adoption, they created Kanavagam as a safe haven for vulnerable children, especially girls, with the help of philanthropists Dr. Venkatachalam and Mr. Somalay Somasundaram.

With support from the Child Protection Agency and Child Welfare Committee, Kanavagam officially opened its doors on December 1, 2017, welcoming 10 children.

Originally a project of the Tamil Nadu Foundation, Kanavagam is now an independent organization focused on empowering girls without parental care. Today, Kanavagam is home to 36 children, cared for by five surrogate mothers and  two managers.

The children grow up in a nurturing environment surrounded by farm animals, fostering a sense of peace and well-being. Kanavagam stands as a beacon of compassion, offering stability, love, and support, ensuring each child has the foundation they need to thrive. It is a true reflection of the founder’s dream and the children’s bright future.
